Introducing the Leder Klompen or Leather Clogs, depending whether you speak middle Dutch or English.

This clog is a story of the two histories of our business combined. The Clog was the shoe our founder, Ross Wootten, made the most of. It was the seventies, in the Adelaide hills, Hahndorf was just down the road, so you know, it made sense. An old mate of Ross', Wilfred, dropped into the workshop last year and left a photo and a lot of stories of how he and Ross had made "hundreds of them" through the seventies and eighties.

Fast forward twenty-odd years and our company, Custom Fit, made orthopaedic shoes and sandals under licence for a Dutch/German company. Twenty years after that, when Jess Wootten took over, some 90% of the shoes made were still Orthopaedic. We've got a habit of holding onto things, so we still have the patterns on file and that set of old Dutch/German lasts for making those anatomically formed footwear. The thought of, "One day, we'll put these back into production" came across our minds every now and then.

So, it makes sense that another twenty years on, after holding onto everything, we decided to bring these back into the fold... Plus, we're known for making lots of boots, but boots and shorts at the beach is a peculiar look, one which Jess has been rocking for a wee bit too long...

We're aiming to have fitting stock available to try in store early November. But, for now, we have a fresh fitting guide which charts the sizing of ours alongside that other rather well-known German clog brand (you know the one, but we'll say it anyway, it's Birkenstock).

Style: Clog with adjustable instep strap

Upper: Locally sourced combination-tanned bovine leather (grain or roughout) approximately 2-2.2mm thickness and unlined

Insole: 4.5mm thick veg-tan leather insole moulded over a cork/EVA combination wedge. The insole is shaped around an anatomically formed last producing pronounced arch and calcaneous support.

Sole: Cemented rubber sole

Soling options: Currently Topy Rug 9mm rubber outsole

Fitting Guide:

Made on our Jaco last form with its anatomical toe shape and arch support. Initially we're opening up sizing from 3-12.5 AU. Sizing is listed in AU. Please consult the size guide and our chart for the Leder Klompen via the link to compare.
